Come Discover the Power of Your Own Purpose

What is Boot Camp?

  • The leadership boot camp is a three-and-a-half-day immersive experience to engage with other women to effect transformative change in the construction industry.
  • The program is designed to provide benefit and value to all women who attend, regardless of their experience or position. Women at every level and position have attended.
  • You will advance your own effectiveness as a leader from wherever to are to the next level and beyond.
  • If you are committed to taking control of your own future and making a difference, then this boot camp is for you.

WHY ATTEND

The days of waiting to be asked, or waiting to be invited, or waiting your turn is over. If you keep expecting someone else to make the changes that are clearly needed in the industry, they are never going to happen, because no one else is going to do it. If they were, it would have happened by now.

The Boot Camp is about shining a light on the leader you could be in the generation of your own life, your own future, and the future of the industry. YOU ARE the change you keep waiting to see.

The Bootcamp is an opportunity to bring extraordinary women together, from companies all over the country, who are intentional about leading in the construction industry…and together will become a force of nature in the transformation of the industry.Barbara Jackson

Who Should Attend?

The Boot Camp is for individual women in the AEC industry who want to fully own and embrace their own power—and learn how to leverage that power in support of their own futures, the futures of their companies, and the future of an industry going through a monumental transformation.

Any woman who associates her career with the construction industry is eligible to attend the boot camp. Women in construction, architecture, engineering, commercial real estate, development, or other related fields are invited to attend, regardless of discipline, position, title, rank, age, or experience.

The opportunity to engage, listen, and learn from diverse experiences, roles, ages, industry sectors, locations, and markets is what makes the Boot Camp so impactful.

  • Women with as few as 3 years and as many as 35 years of experience have attended boot camp.
  • There is no experience requirement per se, but we recommend a minimum of 5 years and highly
encourage those with 20+ years of experience to attend as well.

Transforming Leadership and Culture in the AEC Industry

Barb Jackson

Boot Camp Founder & Program Leader

Throughout my 40+ year career in construction I never thought there was any reason to focus attention on supporting women specifically. But as I continued to observe the challenges and dysfunction that teams were having as we moved in the direction of more collaborative approaches to how buildings and infrastructure were designed and constructed, it was clear that a different kind of leadership was needed and called for. At the same time, I noticed the success that a handful of women leaders were having and the impact that their relationship focused approaches were having on performance, profitability, and people. That’s when it became abundantly clear. We need to advance more women to leadership roles if we want to have any chance of sustaining and growing a dwindling workforce, developing collaborative cultures, and accelerating the pace of transformation and innovation in the AEC industry.

I believe that women participating and leading in the industry is key to its transformation. And by
building a network of connection and support for women in construction, we are securing the future of the industry.”
Barbara Jackson

WHY COMPANIES SUPPORT WOMEN ATTENDING BOOT CAMP

  • The Construction Industry has been going through a tremendous transformation over the past several decades.
  • These transformational changes have been focused primarily on process—project delivery, technology, materials, means and methods, supply change strategies, and many other technical aspects of the business.
  • But what has not changed is our approach to leadership and culture and its impact on our people.
  • The research is overwhelming–Women naturally possess the types of leadership skills needed to navigate the tides of change in the construction industry as it shifts from a segregated services business model to an integrated services business approach.
  • Unfortunately, many high potential women are overlooked and underutilized in their companies, and often end up leaving because the opportunities to grow and advance just aren’t offered to them.
  • Any company that is serious about advancing their competitiveness in the market will want more women leading the way.

“At Power Construction, we believe that personal and professional journeys are closely intertwined. As such, we are committed to supporting women as they grow and learn how to become effective leaders.  When we heard about Barb’s Women in Construction bootcamp, we jumped at the opportunity to provide women with this experience.  Those who have participated have returned with elevated confidence and a clearer understanding of their own motivations and potential, as well as a plan for removing personal and professional roadblocks.  We plan to continue inviting Power women to attend the bootcamp and look forward to the valuable insights and development that comes as a result.”

Cory Schauer

Vice President of People & Culture, Power Construction

“Barb has tapped into something extraordinary that is enabling and empowering our women leaders.  I don’t know exactly what happens there, but its working and we are experiencing more confident, driven, and purposeful leaders as a result of the bootcamp.  The real question is why you are not in the program yet!”

“It is a big day for me, we are announcing my new role as Director this evening. I just wanted to pause for a minute and reflect back on how far I have come over the past (2) years since Bootcamp.   At that point, I began a complete transformation on my focus and priorities both at work and personally.   I am very excited for this opportunity and I am positive that we can do something different at Dome.  I would love to create a path forward that others in the industry can follow.”

“Boot Camp was the most inspirational leadership training I have been to.  It helped me understand myself and navigate my way to success.  A very good use of time and an incredibly refreshing course that is individually tailored to you.  Through this experience you learn to believe in yourself more than ever.”
